Hotel X Fortitude Valley

Branded as somewhere decadent, somewhere different, somewhere wild, Hotel X is certainly not your average luxury hotel. Opening in the heart of Fortitude Valley in March 2021, Hotel X is all about the unexpected, the uninhibited and the undeniably indulgent.

Part of the InterContinentals Group (IHG) family, Hotel X (once Hotel Indigo before a last-minute name change prior to its launch) is a 146-room five-star boutique hotel complete with a contemporary palette, custom furnishings, artwork by Justin Nicholas, and a 24/7 reception. Situated on Brunswick Street in Fortitude Valley, Hotel X is conveniently positioned only a short stroll from the bars of Howard Smith Wharves, the boutiques of James Street and all the action of Fortitude Valley.

THE ROOM.

Hotel X offers guests a choice of a range of room and suite types, some with views, balconies and terraces, and additional living space. During our stay we opted for the Standard Room, which like all rooms and suites included a stunning black and white ensuite complete with Karl Lagerfeld amenities (marking the fashion brand’s first international hotel collaboration to date) and a boutique mini bar which doubled as a striking design feature as well as the usual trimmings: digital streaming television, complimentary tea and coffee machine, free wi-fi and pillow menu. Electronic blinds, a touch-screen tablet for all guest services and a smart lighting system were added luxe elements.

The room, like the rest of the property was beautifully decorated and certainly reflective of its five-star status with high-end finishes everywhere you look, however the room was (or at least felt like it was) on the smaller side at 28 square metres.

AMENITIES.

Surrounded by luxe sun loungers and offering stunning panoramic city views, the property’s rooftop pool is certainly not a bad place to take a dip and make the most of the sunshine. Though, as the pool is unfortunately not heated (yet anyway), unless you’re prepared to brave the icy waters (not an exaggeration), you’ll have to wait till the warmer months before taking the plunge. Otherwise, if you’re more than happy to simply soak up some Vitamin D with a book in a hand and a delicious cocktail in the other, there’s no time like the present.

Beyond the pool, guests can also enjoy the in-house gym.

DINING.

BISOU BISOU

Open seven days for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, Bisou Bisou (French for kiss kiss) is Hotel X’s ground-floor signature French brasserie and aperitivo bar. From the brains behind some of Brisbane’s best venues - think Blackbird, Byblos, Donna Chang, Boom Boom Room Izakaya - Bisou Bisou has been designed to whisk guests to the streets of Paris, with its French-inspired menu to its luxe decor. During our stay we enjoyed breakfast here in the morning, and bar snacks and cocktails in the afternoon.

IRIS

Ride the elevator to the top of Hotel X and you’ll not only find the property’s pool, but Iris, a gorgeous rooftop bar and restaurant that offers breathtaking views of Brisbane’s skyline. Whereas the property’s signature restaurant downstairs (Bisou Bisou) is all about France, Iris is Mediterranean-inspired - the coast from Beirut to Barcelona - with its food and drinks menu and decor reflective of this, with standout dishes including barbecue pork rib pinchos, red claw crayfish tails with smoked chorizo butter and spiced toothfish tacos.
